A total of $233,000 in grants is being awarded to nine community-based organizations to support programs targeting under-served and vulnerable Korean Americans in the greater Bay Area. This is the largest total annual Community Grant funding since KACF-SF’s first grantmaking cycle in 2014, when $100K was disbursed to six grantees. To date, KACF-SF has committed nearly $750K in funding for Community Grants, special project grants, technical assistance support, and event sponsorships. This year’s Community Grants address KACF-SF’s four priority grantmaking areas -- physical and mental health, senior care and empowerment, safety, and youth empowerment – with a focus largely on mental health and senior care, reflecting the continued prominence of these issues in the Korean American community. A little more than half of the total funding awarded this year will go to four organizations providing language-based, culturally competent mental health outreach and counseling services for the Korean American community. In the Foundation’s effort to build upon its existing partnerships, it will support eight returning grantees, while forging a relationship with its newest partner, Richmond Area Multi-Services, a mental health agency based in San Francisco. Seven of the nine organizations were awarded a two-year grant to enable longer-term, sustained efforts in the community. Alongside these grants, KACF-SF will continue to invest in strengthening community partner organizations through funding for capacity-building and other forms of technical assistance.“Our grantees are on the frontlines of providing vital services to the Korean American community, and we are pleased to partner with these dedicated organizations to improve the health and wellbeing of our community,” said Sophia Oh-Kim, KACF-SF Board Chair. “We are excited that the Foundation’s growing partnership with the Bay Area’s community-based organizations allows us to jointly address common challenges as we seek to improve lives and empower our communities,” added Eun-Joo Chang, KACF-SF Executive Director. The grant recipients were selected with input from KACF-SF’s Community Grants Committee (CGC) of volunteers that engages in a participatory grantmaking process. The CGC drives the process by conducting a comprehensive proposal review, including site visits to each of the eligible applicants, and making funding recommendations to KACF-SF’s Board of Directors.2017 KACF-SF Community Grantee Partners:
