These past few weeks, I’ve had the great pleasure to meet many members of the KACF-SF world: nonprofit staff, board members, donors, and volunteers. After having been involved in nonprofit work for more than a decade, I am more convinced than ever that our relationships are the most important part of the work that we do to make this world a better place. The people we spend time with, the people we serve, the people we are served by… it’s these shared connections, this 정(情), that remind us that we need each other, that our lives are intertwined, that none of us could find success walking alone.
I’m so deeply grateful for the warmth, passion, and vision shared by KACF-SF’s community already. I saw the beauty and pride of our shared culture at the Korean Center’s fantastic Chuseok festival. At AACI’s site down in San Jose, I met with the doctors and social workers who are connecting struggling Koreans to the wide variety of services they need to find security. I feel inspired by our elders creating community care for each other at the senior centers KACF-SF supports; and by our philanthropic leaders who volunteer so much of their time, energy, and financial resources to build institutions that will strengthen the resilience of Korean Americans in the Bay Area.
As I look ahead, I’m excited about the opportunities to expand KACF-SF’s capacity; to build deep and supportive relationships with our grantee partners to create lasting, long-term change; and to strengthen the Korean-American community’s voice to advocate for those of us who need it most. There is so much important work that has been done, and so much exciting work that lies ahead. I look forward to walking this path together.
With gratitude,
Tim 효준 Kim
KACF-SF's Grantmaking Activities
KACF-SF's 2022-2023 Community Grant cycle is underway! This year, we have received grant proposals from our long-time community partners: Korean American Community Service (KACS), Korean Community Center of the East Bay (KCCEB), and Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach (APILO) with proposed work on senior wellness and empowerment, immigrant rights and civic engagement. In addition, we are excited to have a talented group of Community Grants Committee volunteers who will be supporting KACF-SF's participatory grantmaking process and ensuring that KACF-SF makes an effective and lasting impact to address the critical needs of our community.
Korean American Town Hall Meeting Brought to you by the Bay Area K-Coalition
With the support of the Consul General's Office of San Francisco, the Bay Area K-Coalition is proud to present a convening to connect Korean American organizations across the Bay Area. Through this event, the K-Coalition strives to increase collaboration and find opportunities for collective action that will increase long-term visibility, voice, and support for Korean Americans in the Bay Area. If you are interested or know anyone who would like to be part of this event, please contact amy@kacfsf.org for help with registration.
22 for $2022 Make A Difference in Our Community
This year, our work matters more than ever. The services that KACF-SF supports for under-resourced Korean Americans - meals and wellness programs for isolated seniors, Korean-language therapy and legal aid, supports for domestic violence survivors - are in critical demand.
If you are interested in giving back in a meaningful and sustainable way, we invite you to become a monthly sustaining donor at just $22/month. Why $22? Because it's 2022, it's a budget friendly amount, and that extra $2 helps cover administrative fees!
