MEET OUR 2022 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

We are thrilled to announce our 2022 Karen Ha Scholarship recipients:
Congratulations to Timothy Jung and Jin Soo Kim

Timothy graduated from Oakland High School and will enter UC Berkeley in the fall as a Regents Scholar. He impressed our scholarship committee with his exemplary work ethic and passion for the community. His experience of volunteering and working with children at Korean school has inspired him to pursue a career in public health.
Jin Soo graduated from Mills High School in Millbrae and plans to study biology at UC Davis, also as a Regents Scholar. Jin Soo showed leadership and drive through his involvement in a food drive for the homeless in the midst of the pandemic. His dream is to become a medical professional who can bridge the gaps in language and resources in the healthcare system.

Celebrate Community, Food, & Storytelling
CultivaLA Westlake Community Garden (Los Angeles)
Saturday, June 25, 6-7:30PM

Join us for an intergenerational project that centers community empowerment and cultural memory. This day holds special meaning for Koreans in the diaspora because it marks the 72nd anniversary of the Korean War, a still unended conflict that continues to reverberate in and beyond the Peninsula. Food – specific dishes, as well as particular plants and seeds – embodies rich stories of how elders survived the armed conflict and its aftermath, and the memories they hope to share with younger generations.

After a panel discussion moderated by Ginny Hwang (Jogamdo) with project collaborators including Katherine Yungmee Kim (Koreatown Storytelling Program), Mina Park (Baroo, Shiku), Jose Miguel Ruiz (CultivaLA), Hannah Pae (Ssi Ya Gi, Terremoto), during a garden reception, all in attendance are invited to share food memories with GYOPO and Koreatown Storytelling Project volunteers who will be collecting oral histories for the GYOPO x Ssi Ya Gi archive.

KACF-SF is proud to support this project in honor of the lasting legacy of Myung Soon (Mary) Kim, a founding member of our organization.

Make A Difference in Our Community
This year, our work matters more than ever. The services that KACF-SF supports for under-resourced Korean Americans - meals and wellness programs for isolated seniors, Korean-language therapy and legal aid, supports for domestic violence survivors - are in critical demand.

If you are interested in giving back in a meaningful and sustainable way, we invite you to become a monthly sustaining donor at just $22/month. Why $22? Because it's 2022, it's a budget friendly amount, and that extra $2 helps cover administrative fees!
