Honoring a Trailblazer this Women's History Month
March 2021 Newsletter
Happy Women's History Month!

Attributed with many “firsts”, Susan Ahn Cuddy (1915-2015) was a trailblazer and pioneering Korean American. It is astounding that she accomplished so much almost a century ago.

As the eldest daughter of Korean independence activist Dosan Ahn Chang Ho, Susan grew up surrounded by people who willingly made sacrifices to help build a better future.

As the first Asian American woman to serve in the US Navy, she would go on to reach the rank of Lieutenant. She was also the first Korean American to serve in US Naval Intelligence.

Introducing #ReadwithKACFSF
Black History Month may be over, but we are committed to honoring Black history all year-long. Each month, we will spotlight a book to learn more about the richness of Black history and how Black Civil Rights Activists have shaped Asian American history as we know it today.

For our inaugural spotlight, we turned to Minor Feelings, a poetic articulation of the Asian American experience by Cathy Park Hong. Before we seek to, as Hong put it, “free ourselves of our conditional existence”, we must first know our own history and our experiences.
