AAPI Heritage Month

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. Although we know that AAPI stories and people belong no matter what month it is, we are delighted to share events taking place this month that highlight AAPI contributions and achievements. To celebrate AAPI Heritage Month, we are learning about the rich history by watching documentaries, reading books by AAPI authors, supporting AAPI-owned businesses, and donating to organizations serving under-resourced AAPI communities. Tag us on social media with our handle @kacfsanfrancisco and share how you're celebrating AAPIHM!

Scroll down to the Upcoming Events section to learn more about programming from our community partners in the arts, film, advocacy, and AAPI history.

Congratulations, Ellie and Rachel!
Our 2021 Karen Ha Scholarship recipients
Ellie Kim is passionate about environmental sustainability and the performing arts. She's been involved in marching band, symphony, and Korean traditional dance. In her free time, Ellie enjoys spending time with her family, listening to music, and reading webtoons. This fall, she will be heading to UC Davis this fall to study environmental engineering so that she can be part of creating a more sustainable future for all.
Rachel Kim plans to pursue a degree in psychology at UC Santa Barbara. She cares deeply about educational equity and policy, and she hopes to channel that energy into a career in academia or at an NGO. Among other activities, she served as president of the Cupertino Youth Activity Board from 2018-2021. Rachel likes cats, bullet journaling, and exploring places with her friends.
We are proud to welcome these two talented students into our KACF-SF family, and we wish them luck as they pursue their dreams of higher education!

KACF-SF’s grantmaking program supports organizations on the front lines providing critical social and mental health services for low-income Korean Americans, such as the expansive work of the Korean Community Center of the East Bay. Through their Mental Health Asian Pipeline Program (MHAP), KCCEB serves as a hub for Master of Social Work students to gain immersive experiences and on-the-ground training, equipping them with the cultural competency to serve the mental health care needs of Korean American and other Asian populations.

KCCEB's Yeri Shon stressed the interconnectedness of the issues facing our most vulnerable populations and how a single issue cannot be addressed in isolation. KCCEB takes on a holistic approach to their programs encompassing community health access, mental health wellness, senior wellness, and immigration legal services. During the pandemic, they quickly mobilized to meet the needs of vulnerable populations facing food insecurity and financial hardship.

A heartfelt thank you to KCCEB for the vital work you do for our community!
