Happy Holidays from all of us at KACF-SF!
Wishing you and your loved ones peace, warmth, and good health.

Since our inception six years ago, KACF-SF has disbursed over $1.6M in grants to an array of local nonprofits serving under-resourced Korean Americans in the areas of physical and mental health; senior care; domestic and family safety; citizenship and civic engagement; and youth empowerment.

And now, we are pleased to announce our 2020-2021 Community Grant partners:

A huge THANK YOU to all of these organizations and their teams
for the amazing and essential work they do in our community.

We are delighted to announce that Perry Ha will be taking the helm as KACF-SF Board Chair in January 2021! Perry is the Founder and Managing Director of Draper Athena, a venture capital firm with offices in the US, Korea, and China. He has served on the board of many successful companies and advises a number of Korean American professional associations. Perry cares deeply about advancing the well-being of the Korean American community and has been involved with KACF-SF since the beginning.

Let's get to know Perry with a short Q&A!
  • Why did you decide to join KACF-SF?
    • It is a myth that all Korean Americans excel in math, are well educated, and are leaders in the community. There are many who struggle and yet remain hidden because of cultural bias or lack of knowledge. I wanted to help change this and have been involved from its founding in 2014. We have come a long way, but still have a longer way to go.  I am honored to be part of this journey with the board, staff, and volunteers who share the common goal.
  • Favorite Korean Dish:
    • 김치찌게 (kimchi jjigae)
  • One Life Joy during Covid:
    • Occasional backyard lunches with friends. They made me realize how we used to take things for granted.
We look forward to his leadership! Check out his full bio here.

Our deepest thanks to Sophia Oh-Kim, founding Board Chair, for six years of visionary leadership. KACF-SF would not be what it is today without her passion and drive. Sophia will remain on our board, and we are thrilled that we get to continue working together. We recognized her work with a special tribute video!
Introducing the newest member of our Associate Board, Youngwon Lee! Youngwon founded Dokkaebier to add some spice to the local brewery culture.  He's building a fun, Asian-influenced craft beer brand using ingredients and flavors, like bamboo leaves, chili powders, and Korean berries. Youngwon has had more than a decade of operations, finance, sales, and brand management experience in the food & beverage industry in both Korea and the US. He is a native of Korea but has lived in various cities throughout the US and even Guam! Youngwon is passionate about making people happy through food and beverages.
  • Why did you decide to join KACF-SF?
    • I love how KACF-SF is involved in all aspects of the Korean American Community. I would love to empower Korean Americans through the organization. Pay it forward!
  • Favorite Korean Dish:
    • Korean BBQ
    One Life Joy during Covid:
    • Camping
Cheers and welcome,Youngwon, to the KACF-SF family!

Thanks to your generosity, KACF-SF has given out over $500,000 in grants this year to support the greatest needs in the Korean American community. Your dollars have allowed us and our nonprofit partners to provide assistance to those facing devastating challenges including housing loss, unemployment, and food insecurity.

The need is still great. Low-income Korean Americans have been among the hardest hit during the Covid-19 pandemic. Your contributions will support our efforts to expand access to culturally competent mental health services, legal assistance, food delivery, and other critical social services.
